Designed for hub piloted wheels to assist in keeping the wheel centered on the hub. It is common for the tabs that align the wheels to become damaged or wear, or, in the case of aluminum hubs, to corrode. The result is that the wheels are not held in place centered on the hub. This leads to excessive run out which will cause a shake or vibration and accelerated tire wear. The flange nuts have a skirt that extends below the nut and fills the space between the stud and the hole in the wheel.
